Your first visit: what to expect and how to prepare

A calm, step-by-step guide we send to every new patient, so the first appointment starts on time and without surprises.

Before you arrive

A little preparation makes the first appointment shorter and more useful for you and your dentist.

1

Bring the essentials

A photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of any medicines you take, with doses.

2

Complete the short form

The medical history form takes about five minutes. Arrive ten minutes early to complete it at reception.

3

Tell us how you feel

If you are anxious, say so when you book. We can allow extra time and go at your pace.

Need to reschedule? Tell us at least 24 hours ahead so another patient can use the appointment.

At the clinic

Your dentist explains every step before starting and stops whenever you raise a hand. Most first visits take around 45 minutes.

  • A gentle examination and, if needed, digital X-rays with low radiation.
  • A plain-language explanation of what we find, with photographs.
  • A written treatment plan with options, timings and costs before any work starts.

Treatment options

Common treatments and what they involve. Your dentist will recommend what suits you.

TreatmentTypical visitsRecovery
Scale and polish1None
Filling1A few hours of numbness
Root canal21 to 2 days of tenderness
Crown2Up to 2 days

Aftercare

  • Avoid hot drinks for two hours after a filling, until the numbness fades.
  • Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and clean between teeth daily.
  • Call us if pain lasts more than two days or swelling appears.

Book your next check-up before you leave. Regular visits every six months catch small problems while they are simple to treat.

Costs and insurance

You receive a written estimate before treatment. We can submit claims to most major insurers, and you pay only the difference. Payment plans are available for larger treatments.

Common questions

Does the examination hurt?

No. It is a gentle check with a mirror and a small probe. Tell us if anything feels uncomfortable and we will stop.

Can I bring a family member?

Yes. A friend or relative is welcome to wait with you or sit in during the appointment.

What if I need urgent care?

Call the clinic. We keep a few same-day slots every morning for pain and emergencies.
